Hi, welcome to Purr & Place.
I started this site because living with a cat comes with a surprising number of small questions.
Is she drinking enough water? Why does she suddenly ignore something she loved last week? Where should the litter box go? Does she really need a water fountain? Why does she sleep in the cardboard box instead of the bed I bought for her?
And then there are all the random little behaviors that make you stop and Google something at 11 p.m.
I do that a lot.
Over time, I found myself reading more, trying different things at home, moving things around, comparing products, and paying closer attention to what my cat actually seemed to like.
Purr & Place is where I keep what I learn.
Everyday life with an indoor cat
Most of this site is about the ordinary parts of sharing a home with a cat.
Food and water. Litter boxes. Scratching. Grooming. Play. Sleeping spots. Cleaning. Cat furniture. Strange habits. Small problems. Things you buy and later realize your cat has absolutely no interest in.
Some questions have a clear answer.
Others are more like, “try this, see what your cat thinks, and adjust from there.”
That is a big part of living with cats anyway.
Making home work for both of you
Cats are very good at telling us what they want without actually telling us anything.
They choose their own favorite chair, window, corner, box, shelf, rug, or piece of furniture. Sometimes they also choose the one place you really wish they would leave alone.
I like figuring out how to work with that rather than against it.
Sometimes that means adding a scratching post where the scratching is already happening. Sometimes it means moving the water bowl. Sometimes it is giving up part of a windowsill because apparently that belongs to the cat now.
A cat-friendly home does not have to mean filling every room with cat stuff.
For me, it is more about noticing how your cat uses the space and making small changes that make sense for both of you.
About the things we buy for cats
Buying things for cats is weirdly easy.
There is always another bowl, toy, bed, fountain, litter box, brush, feeder, tunnel, or piece of furniture that looks like it might completely change your cat’s life.
Sometimes it does help.
Sometimes your cat looks at it once and walks away.
When I write about products here, I am interested in whether something is actually useful, what kind of cat or home it might work for, and whether you need it in the first place.
I do not think a good life for a cat is about owning the most cat products.
Sometimes the best solution costs nothing.
And sometimes the cardboard box still wins.
Why Purr & Place?
The name came from the two things this site is really about.
The cat, and the place you share with them.
Purr & Place is a collection of the things I have learned, the questions I keep asking, and all the little parts of everyday life that come with having a cat at home.
I am still figuring things out too.
If you are doing the same, you are in the right place.
Welcome to Purr & Place.
